Tour features

Seven days sightseeing and camel safari tour from the red Imperial city of Marrakech to the south-Sahara desert and Erg Chigaga as the largest and still natural sand dune in the Moroccan Sahara desert. Located in the Drâa-Tafilalet area near the rural town and oasis of M'Hamid El Ghizlane and south of the desert town Zagora, some dunes are up to 40km in width, up to 300m high and are the largest, wildest and most unforgiving in Morocco. The south-Sahara desert is only accessible by 4x4, camel or on foot; therefore considered a romantic destination and a photographers dream.

Itinerary

Day one - Marrakech to Zagora: After breakfast pick-up from your riad in Marrakech, cross the scenic Tizi n’Tichka High Atlas Mountain pass towards Ouarzazate for a traditional Moroccan lunch and mint tea, continue past traditional Berber villages, Agdz and the Draa valley to Zagora for dinner and overnight.

Day two - Zagora to Oued Lemhasser: After breakfast, drive to Faija, meet up with camel team, trek on foot across Jebel Bani to start Sahara desert camel safari on the plains, traditional Moroccan picnic lunch, overnight with dinner at tented camp at Oued Lemhasser (Oasis at foot of Jebel Abes).

Day three - Oued Lemhasser to Chigaga dunes:After breakfast, continue camel safari, crossing El Abbes, traditional Moroccan picnic lunch, overnight and dinner at Erg Chigaga dunes.

Day four - Chigaga dunes to Bougarn dunes: : Sunrise climb Erg Chigaga, breakfast and continue camel safari through the Sahara desert, crossing a large area of small dunes towards Bougarn, traditional Moroccan picnic lunch, overnight and dinner at Bougarn dunes.

Day five - Bougarn dunes to Oued Naam: After breakfast, continue camel safari to Oued Naam, traditional Moroccan picnic lunch along the way, dinner and overnight Oued Naam.

Day six - Oued Naam to M’Hamid: After breakfast, continue camel safari crossing a large area of small dunes, traditional Moroccan picnic lunch, overnight and dinner in desert camp in M’Hamid in authentic Berber nomad tents with shower facilities.

Day seven - M’Hamid to Marrakech: Drive back along the Draa valley to Ouarzazate through Tamegroute and Zagora. Traditional Moroccan lunch at Agdz. Depart to Marrakech crossing the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Atlas Mountain pass for late afternoon / early evening arrival back in Marrakech, drop off at your riad.
