Tour features

Six days hiking and trekking tour from the red Imperial city of Marrakech to Jebel Saghro, a stark, arid and almost empty mountain range in southern Morocco past Ouarzazate. The landscape of Jebel Saghro is mostly occupied by traditional semi-nomadic Berber goatherds and consists of mesas with flat tops, deep gorges and rugged rock spires twisted from volcanic activity. Views from the top include almond groves, date palms and spectacular views across the Atlas Mountains.

Itinerary

Day one - Marrakech to Tagdilt: After breakfast pick-up from your riad in Marrakech and cross the Tizi n’Tichka scenic high Atlas Mountain pass towards Ouarzazate. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch and mint tea. Continue on the way to Dades valley through the valley of 1,000 Kasbahs for dinner and overnight at the desert plateau of Tagdilt (1,650m).

Day two - Tagdilt to Plateau of N’Ouarg: After breakfast join the local muleteer team, cross a large plateau before trekking up to the col of Tizi n’Iferd with a panoramic view on the massif of the central High Atlas, traditional Moroccan picnic lunch along the way, descend to the plateau of Iferd for dinner and overnight in tented bivouac on the plateau n’Ouarg (2,250m).

Day three - Plateau of N’Ouarg to Igli: After breakfast continue guided trekking to the summit of Kouaouch (2,600m), traditional Moroccan picnic lunch along the way, descent to Tassegdilt. Overnight for dinner and tented bivouac in Igli (1,700m).

Day four - Igli to Ighazzoun: After breakfast continue guided trek down through the Afourar valley, trek past gorges and pass the small Oasis of Bouallouz to arrive at Ousdidene. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan picnic lunch while enjoying the beauty of an immense plateau lined by the peaks of Bab n’Ali. Trek up to the famous gate Bab n’Ali and continue to the Oasis of Ighazoune for dinner and overnight and tented bivouac.

Day five - Oasis of Ighazoune to Handoure: After breakfast continue guided trek towards the small Col of Tifdassine, followed by a long descent to the Tifdassine valley. Traditional Moroccan picnic lunch under the almond trees, continue to the village of Handoure for overnight and dinner at a local guest house.

Day six - Handoure to Marrakech: After breakfast, leave the muleteer team behind and travel back to Marrakech, through the villages of Knob, Agdez, Ouarzazate and crossing the Col Tizi n’Tichka. Late afternoon arrival back in Marrakech with drop-off at your riad.
