Tour features
Three days hiking and trekking tour from the red Imperial city of Marrakech to the Berber village of Imlil in the high Atlas Mountains to start your non-technical summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest mountain peak in North Africa at 4,167m. Jbel Toubkal lays at the heart of a network of trekking trails that offer striking high altitude mountain scenery, lush valleys and relatively untouched traditional Berber villages and communities. With winter snow from November to May, Toubkal is climbable with crampons and ice axes. Once summited, the reward is spectacular with views across the mountains from Marrakech to the north and the start of the Sahara to the south, with all-round jagged peaks of the High Atlas stretching in every direction.
Itinerary
Day one - Marrakech to Imlil: After breakfast pick-up from your riad in Marrakech and depart to Imlil. Start hiking with local guide and muleteer team carrying the backpacks and food to Toubkal basecamp at 3,200m, passing the Imlil valley traditional Berber villages. Traditional Moroccan picnic lunch under the juniper trees. Dinner and overnight at Toubkal basecamp.
Day two - Toubkal Ascent: After 4:30am breakfast, start morning guided ascent of Mount Toubkal at 5am. Once summited, a pre-packed lunch can be enjoyed amongst the stunning mountain views at 4,167m. After lunch, descent to basecamp for dinner and overnight.
Day three - Imlil to Marrakech: After breakfast, trek down the deep valleys back to Imlil, enjoy a traditional Moroccan picnic lunch under the walnut trees. Explore Imlil town on a short optional guided walking tour. Late afternoon arrival back in Marrakech with drop-off at your riad.
